By Instituto Canario de Estadística, (ISTAC), del Gobierno de Canarias These surveys take a snapshot of the islands' homes from 2004, since they make a
income level tracking, its distribution in the population, living conditions (access
to employment, education, salud, quality of life, etc.) and situations of social inequality and
poverty of the population residing in the Canary Islands.
Within these, highlights how the use of mobile phones has become widespread, going from a 80% en 2004 still
98% en 2022. On the other side, Landline use has dropped substantially, de un 71% de los
homes in 2018 still 59% en 2022.
The Income and Living Conditions Surveys of Canary Islands Households also confirm the
aging population, since the so-called old age index has risen , which is calculated
dividing the population of 65 and more years among the total population, and the youth index has dropped
, which is calculated with the population of 0 a 14 years with respect to the total of the Canary Islands.
Así, en 2004, the old age index was 12,3%, while in 2022 es del 18%, aproximadamente 2

population in 2022, while this youth index in 2004 was from 15,3%.
