06 Feb The agri-food sector maintains its weight in the Canarian economy in 2022 but down in terms of employment
By Instituto Canario de Estadística, (ISTAC), del Gobierno de Canarias The agri-food sector represents a 4,9 percent of the gross value added of the Canary Islands (VAB)
for that period. This is a similar percentage to previous years.. Instead, las 61.749 people who
are busy in this sector represent the 7,1 percent of the total in the Canary Islands. This percentage is
slightly lower than that of 2021 (7,4%) and maintains a downward trend since 2015.
En el año 2022, aumentó un 17,4 percent the contribution of the agri-food sector to the value
gross added (VAB). This contribution grew to the same extent as the total GVA of the Canary Islands,
motivated by the general increase in prices. Within the sector, the contribution of sections grew
like trade (20,3%), the food industry (18,4%) and the primary sector (15,3%) .
In terms of employment, The contribution of the agri-food sector grew by 1,6 percent with respect to
2021. This increase is lower than the global employment rate in the Canary Islands, que aumentó en 2022 en un

In this publication the figures appear updated to adjust them to the statistical review
carried out by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) in the Regional Accounting of Spain in
2024.
