06 Sea More than half of the Canarian population perceives the employment situation negatively and a large majority supports the interprofessional minimum wage

the current situation is good or very good, followed by the south of Tenerife (24,3%), south of Gran Canaria
(23,2%) y Lanzarote (23,2%). On the opposite side, the metropolitan areas of
Tenerife and Gran Canaria, in which three out of five people negatively value the
employment situation.
Nine out of ten people give a lot or quite a lot of importance to job stability.
Four out of ten give great importance to good opportunities for promotion, can
work independently and a job that allows you to help other people.
Almost half of the people (el 47%) agrees that immigration could be a solution
to fill unfilled jobs, while almost a 30% does not share this idea.
In the Canary Islands, a 46% of people have disagreed that the digital transformation of the
economy will have a positive impact on job creation. Un 25,7% agrees.
In relation to the increase in the interprofessional minimum wage that took place in 2025, el 85%
assures that it is still insufficient to live with dignity. Almost one in four people (73%) cree
that greater purchasing power will boost citizen spending. Also a large majority (65%)
considers that the increase in the minimum wage has led to an increase in the prices of products
consumer basics.
Reduction of working hours, underground economy and entrepreneurship
The possible reduction of working hours, the underground economy and entrepreneurship have been the
other aspects studied at ECOSOC this quarter. More than six out of ten people (63%) están
in favor of reducing the working day of 40 hours to 37,5. Support is more unanimous among
salaried people (70%), and lowest among self-employed people (36%).
A large majority of people believe that reducing the working day will allow for
better balance between personal and work life (76%) and will mean reducing stress and
improving the mental health of working people (68%). Un 44,5% does not believe that the reduction of
work schedule brings with it an increase in workload, in front of an almost 36% what do you consider
opposite.
In relation to the underground economy, el 64% of people consider it unacceptable that a
individual or a person who works as a self-employed person does not declare all or part of their income,
although he 12% sees it as acceptable.
El 44% of the underground economy jobs hired in the last 12 months correspond to
home repairs or renovations. Treatments or personal care follow (26%) and the
workshop repair services (20%).
Un 39% of Canarian residents claim to have a lot or a lot of trust in the authorities
tax as a public body for the treatment of incidents of the underground economy,
while a 27% declares that he deserves little or no trust.

entrepreneurship have been taxes. Bureaucratic procedures and lack of support from
the administrations are the other obstacles they have found.
The majority of residents (53%) considers that in the Canary Islands there are no opportunities
necessary to undertake some type of business activity, percentage that rises to almost
70% in the case of employers.
Methodology
ECOSOC is a quarterly survey that studies the population of 18 and more years residing in homes
main relatives in the Canary Islands, and has been designed to be able to provide results at the island and country level.
