By Instituto Canario de Estadística, (ISTAC), del Gobierno de Canarias The population of 28 a 39 years decreased 15.781 and of 0 a 4 years 4.691. These age groups,
who are the most active at work and the representatives of the drop in birth rates in the
last years, alone justify the annual decline in population and accentuate in the Canary Islands the
structural phenomenon of population aging in modern societies. Taking into account the
population according to age year by year, It is observed that those registered with age show a greater decrease
30 a 32 years old, 76, 72, 0, 36, 29, 4 and 28 years old.
In the seven islands the number of registered inhabitants decreases, mostly in Tenerife (-7.646) and
Fuerteventura (-2.244). The municipalities with the greatest absolute decreases were Adeje (-2.720),
San Bartolome de Tirajana (-2.321), Santiago del Teide (-2.166), Santa Cruz de Tenerife (-1.314),
Bird (-1.252), Los Realejos (-1.110) and Arona (-1.097).
By country of birth, Reino Unido (-8.570), Alemania (-8.272), Francia (-1.137), Portugal (-837) and
Argentina (-648) record the largest decreases. The largest increases are from Spain (5.727),
Cuba (1.512), Rusia (461), China (430) and Colombia (328). Exploitation by country of nationality,
taking into account nationalizations and that in cases of dual nationality the
Spanish, if it is one of them, indicates that the greatest decreases were among the population
of United Kingdom nationality (-8.830), Alemania (-8.534), Colombia (-3.484), Venezuela (-1.451) and
Cuba (-1.275). The largest increases in Spain (20.232), China (476), Rusia (409) and Norway (312).
