By Instituto Canario de Estadística, (ISTAC), del Gobierno de Canarias EPA-Reg collects and analyzes employment data, unemployment and other indicators related to
the active population registered in the Canary Islands on a suburban scale, like the claimant rate
of municipal employment and the rate of youth job seekers, the basic indicators of the number
of employed and unemployed and the temporary employment rate, among others.
In an analysis by municipalities, the list of the 5 lower rates of job seekers
registered are located in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Yaiza is the municipality that has the lowest
tasa (6,5%), followed by Pájara (7,1%), Aunts (8,4%), Teguise (8,5%), and Saint Bartholomew (8,9%).
Por el contrario, municipalities of La Palma, Gran Canaria and Tenerife have registered the five largest
registered jobseeker rates. Tazacorte (22,1%) is the municipality that has the
higher rate, followed by Garafía (21,4%), Moya (21,3%) and The Tank and The Village of San Nicolás, both
con 20,5%.
This statistic also incorporates additional variables related to the active population, el
activity sector, the employment situation (employed or self-employed), the duration of the
contract, working hours and duration of unemployment, which provides more insight
complete of the employment situation of our community.
Sources of data collection
The great value that EPA-Reg brings compared to other employment operations is that the sources
of data collection are integrated administrative records, so you can study the
labor market together while disaggregated data can be obtained territorially
even at the submunicipal level.
Asimismo, The figures presented correspond to people, not to jobs, information
which is very relevant for the analysis of data for decision making regarding
employment.
The Registered Active Population Statistics is an operation that was published for the first time in
2021, fruit of collaboration with the Canarian Employment Service, and offers submunicipal data,
municipal, island and autonomous regions georeferenced from 2011.
