By Instituto Canario de Estadística, (ISTAC), del Gobierno de Canarias By age, the inhabitants of 14 y menos años (-1,4%) y de 15 a 40 (-2,4%), increasing
entre 41 and 65 (1,8%) y en más de 65 years old (1,6%), therefore continuing the aging of our
population, structural phenomenon of modern societies.
By place of birth, the population born in the Canary Islands did not change appreciably., 1.552.389. La
population born in the rest of Spain, 175.575, aumentó un 0,8%, and the foreign-born,
372.342, varied a -1,5%.
Se contabilizaron 253.107 resident foreigners, a variation of -5,3% (-14.031) respecto al año
anterior, the regions of nationality with the greatest decrease being America (-10,8%), Africa (-4,8%)
and the European Union (-4,3%).
Lanzarote was the island with the greatest relative increase in population, a 0,9%, reaching the figure of
143.209 habitantes. Fuerteventura con 107.367 inhabitants increased by 0,4% and La Gomera with 20.783 a
0,3%. The rest of the islands decreased their population: Tenerife con 888.184 a -0,2%, Gran Canaria con
847.830 a -0,4%, El Hierro con 10.587 a -0,8% and La Palma with 82.346 a -1,3%.
The most populated municipalities are Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with 379.766 inhabitants and S/C of Tenerife
con 203.811, varying both a -0,7% respecto al año anterior. The Lagoon with 152.843 habitantes
varied a -0,1%. Telde with 102.078 and Arona with 79.928 they hardly changed. They follow them in the Santa population
Lucia with 69.069 inhabitants and an increase in 0,8%, reef with 56.940 y un 0,1% and Saint Bartholomew
Tirajana with 54.932 y un 1%.
