By Instituto Canario de Estadística, (ISTAC), del Gobierno de Canarias The Canary Islands are in first position within the ranking of variations of this index (1,9%),
followed by the Valencian Community (1,1%), Andalusia (0,9%) y Castilla – La Mancha (-0,6%). Por
other side, the smallest variations occurred in Madrid (-6,1%), Asturias (-4,0%) and Ceuta
(-3,7%). Taking into account the evolution of sales by groups in the Canary Islands, éstas subieron un 0,6% en
alimentación y un 5,2% en el resto.

Por su parte, employment in Canarian retail trade has increased by 3,5% in the last twelve
meses, while at the national level it has increased 1,5%. En este concepto, Canarias está posicionada
in second position among the group of autonomous communities and cities, surpassed by Madrid
(4,0%) and followed by the Balearic Islands (3,1%) and Andalusia (2,7%), while the lowest rates of variation
have occurred in Extremadura (-1,1%), Rioja (-1,1%) and Melilla (-0,8%).
