31 May Retail sales in the Canary Islands increased in April 2023 a 6,1% over the same month of 2022

superada por Baleares (12,4%), Madrid (10,4%) and the Valencian Community (7,1%). On the other side, las
Minor variations occurred in Melilla (-0,6%), Castile and León (-0,6%), Murcia (0,7%), Aragon
(0,7%) and Basque Country (0,7%). Atendiendo a la evolución de las ventas por grupos, they did not suffer
variation in food in the Canary Islands (0,0%), while they rose a 17,6% en el resto.
Por su parte, employment in Canarian retail trade has increased by 4,2% in the last twelve
meses, while at the national level it has increased 1,8%. En este concepto, Canarias está posicionada
in second position among the group of autonomous communities and cities, superada por Baleares
(5,3%) and followed by Extremadura (3,7%), while the lowest rates of variation have occurred in
Asturias (-1,8%), Ceuta (-0,9%) and Murcia (0,2%).
